Blackdot Pancake Wireless Speaker - A Review

Blackdot is one of the few up and coming brands in Singapore that has taken the local scene by storm. As a result, it is to no one's surprise that they have come up with their own wireless speaker - and with good results too.

Our first reaction to this speaker was how compact it really was. It measures just 10 cm in diameter and 3.5 cm in thickness. Its fabric material felt good on the hands, and its sound surprised us at how loud it was (up to 95 dB!) for a build that size. Even playing some tunes in the shower just took about less than half of its maximum volume, for distinction between sheer listening pleasure and eardrum-shredding noise. Secondly, its IP67 rating gives it that splash-proof factor which lessens my worry about water damage. An IP67 rating means that the product is 100% protected against solid objects like dust and sand, and has been tested to work for at least 30 minutes while under 15 cm to 1m of water.

Combining premium sound quality, a listening time that lasts up to 10 hours, and ultra-portability thanks to its' compact design, these speakers do not only look and sound great, but they also make a great gift option for the upcoming holidays as well! Blackdot has introduced the fabric covering which gives it a splash-proof factor and good grip. It also comes with an attached string to hang onto places which comes in handy, during cycling or hiking, and especially for NSFs who want to blast some music in the shower (we've all been there).

It's great for travelling, as having to pack a speaker this size means that it does not take up much space in your bag or luggage. We've brought it on a picnic once, and it provided great sound in a small package too!

In the box, you get:

1x Pancake Speaker

1x User Manual

1x AUX Cable

1x Micro USB to Type C Converter

1x Micro USB Charging Cable

Its 800 mAh battery can surprisingly crank out up to 10 hours of playback and takes a maximum of 2 hours to charge fully. This is quite decent for a product as small and compact as the Blackdot Pancake Wireless Speaker.

In terms of sound quality, for its price, the Blackdot Pancake Wireless Speakers have a well-balanced sound quality of lows, mids, and highs. It can get a little shrill when the volume is maxed out, but the mids and lows are somewhat full-bodied. The bass is not overpowering, which is a good thing. Keeping it slightly below max volume would prevent the shrill sound.

The Blackdot Pancake Wireless Speaker actually comes with an in-built microphone, so you can answer phone calls. A 1-year warranty is included, so we've found that the best way to get a replacement is to drop the item off at their office at First Centre, 50 Serangoon North Avenue 4.

Our final thoughts? This speaker is fairly priced for its sound quality and battery life. If you don’t already have a Bluetooth speaker and are looking for an affordable speaker to bring around, the Blackdot Pancake Wireless Speaker is absolutely worth it. Its' waterproof fabric and portable size makes it a great option for everyone.
